How it all started
While I’ve previously shared my creations on various platforms, I found myself restricted by needing different platforms depending on area. My personality leans towards exploration and diversification, rather than niching into a particular topic. So conforming to predefined molds was not working for me. Thus, I decided to carve out my own space on the web – a website where I could freely explore and share all the things that interest me. I write more about the purpose of this website in this post.
Initial ideas
Initially, I envisioned the site as a digital magazine-style platform, offering a plethora of categories to delve into. However, this approach quickly led to clutter, prompting a shift towards a cleaner layout. This not only suited a less rigid posting schedule but also enhanced the user experience.
Embracing the nocturnal theme, I opted for a dark scheme while infusing bursts of color to reflect creativity and joy. Initially I experimented with up to four different chromas, but I soon realized it was too ambitious. Ultimately, I settled on a palette of three colors, striking a balance between vibrancy and cohesion.
Categories
Carpe Noctes is organized into four main categories: Aesthetics, Binary, Culinary, and Diverse. While initially considering names like Crafting, Coding, and Culinary, the alphabetical arrangement of A-B-C-D seemed more aesthetically pleasing.
Subcategories are expected to evolve over time, reflecting the diverse range of interests explored on the blog. To maintain flexibility and avoid being bound by initial category choices, permalinks for posts will be based solely on post names.
Currently, subcategories are tailored to hobbies I’m actively engaged in, including:
- Coloring
- Doodling
- Interior decoration
- Linux theming
- Scripts
- Python (I’m developing a course)
- Excel
- Hacking war games
- Cooking
- Baking (really into sour dough bread making these days)
- D&D
- Short stories
- Puzzles
